Dryers are a commonly replaced appliance because they have a relatively short lifespan.  If you need a new one, buy electric.  They actually cost less than gas!

Some of the most common appliance replacements are below.

Solar power allows you to generate your own electricity, and even sell power back to the grid if you have extra.  Average savings in Albany are nearly $1000 a year.

Heat pumps are incredibly efficient, using much less energy than a standard gas furnace.  The reduction in energy use can save you around $150 a year on your utility bill.

Heat Pump Water Heaters are more efficient than gas water heaters.  On average, they'll save you about $50 a year on your utility bill.

All-electric heat pumps and heat pump water heaters are great alternatives to gas-powered appliances, especially when paired with home solar panels, and can potentially lower your utility bill.  Save up to hundreds of dollars every year by installing these in your home. Further, because they are more efficient and can run on clean electricity, they lead to huge greenhouse gas emissions savings!

Want to electrify your home but start with a low-cost project?

Dryers and Cooktops are on the low end in terms of upfront costs.  These are a great place to start if you want to get started with electrification and keep your costs down.

Heat Pump Water Heaters cost about $1300, only a few hundred dollars more expensive than standard gas or electric water heaters.

Do you need to upgrade your Electrical Panel?

For many projects, the best place to start is with an electrical panel upgrade. Your panel must have enough breaker spaces for each new appliance and be able to handle the additional electrical load.  Not sure if you need a new panel? An electrician or energy auditor can help you determine what electrical work your home will need.  Take this short quiz to get better acquainted with your panel and estimate what size you'll need for your project.
