The table below summarizes the incentives available from the above programs. Please note that the amounts listed below are maximums, and the full amount may not be available in all cases.  More details on each program are listed below.

The City of Albany is offering rebates for heat pump heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems! All heat pump installations in the City of Albany are eligible up to 4 months after receiving a permit. Rebate amounts vary depending on household income. Learn more at albanyca.org/heatpumps.

The BayREN single family program is transitioning to a direct-installation program for moderate income households. More information will be available soon.

Federal Tax Credits

 

​

The Inflation Reduction Act has created and adjusted several federal tax credits for a variety of home improvements.  Please note that tax credits can be complex and the actual amount you receive may differ depending on your individual tax situation.  Consult a tax professional to understand what these credits mean for you.  Additionally, many of the credits have very specific definitions and requirements for equipment efficiency and performance.

Solar Tax Credit

30% of cost for solar panels and solar storage batteries

This credit will drop to 26% in 2033, 22% in 2034, and will expire in 2035

​

Electric Vehicle Tax Credit

New- Up to $7,500

Used- Up to $4,000

Credit amounts differ depending on the vehicle purchased.

Electric Vehicle Charger Tax Credit

30% up to $1000 

​

Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (available starting 2023)

This credit covers 30% of the cost for eligible projects with various maximums (listed below).  This program has an annual maximum of $1,200, meaning that in an individual year, the combined credits from this program cannot exceed $1,200. Individuals can receive up to $1,200 each year from 2023 to 2032. There is one exception to the annual maximum: in years where a heat pump HVAC system or heat pump water heater are installed, the annual maximum is raised to $2,000.

HEEHRA

The High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate Act (HEEHRA) is a program created by the Inflation Reduction Act to provide upfront rebates for electrification and efficiency improvements.  This program is being run through the TECH program is now available​​

​

For households below 80% Area Median Income (AMI) the rebate is $8,000 (max of 100% of product costs)

​

For households 80%-150% Area Median Income (AMI) the rebate is $4,000 (max of 50% of product costs).

​

The chart below shows the maximum household income levels to qualify for the rebate.  Household size is the total number of people in the home (including children and non-family members). Household income is the combined income of all adults in the household.

 

TECH

The Technology and Equipment for Clean Heating (TECH) Program has relaunched!

​

The program is offering a $1,500 rebate for heat pump HVAC installations (rebate lowers to $1000 if the existing furnace/AC are not decommissioned). Customers must sign up for demand response to qualify.

​

To be eligible for TECH rebates you must work with a TECH participating contractor. Incentives are distributed to contractors and passed through to homeowners.
